Examples of practical applications of this mission are: Cairnstone envisioned and managed the creation of a catastrophic care HMO, Avandel Healthcare, Inc. Though this company no longer exists, the experience helped Cairnstone gain important insights into the challenges of managing catastrophic risks. Cairnstone is one of the few Managing General Underwriters (MGUs) that has its own nurses on staff managing catastrophic exposures. Cairnstone has partnered with several specialty provider networks. These networks enable our clients to have access to the finest providers of catastrophic medical care at favorable prices. Our experienced actuaries and underwriters are available to our producers to help improve the cost and quality of their health plans. Often significant improvements can be gained by tailoring benefit designs to address problems specific to a particular plan.
